The Build Begins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Monday 1st September, exactly 80 weeks since our fundraising began, Calums Cabin will begin a new chapter. The digging will start and the foundations will be laid, in one way we have waited a long time for this day to come and in another way we have all come much further than we could have initially imagined, and that is thanks to each and everyone who has contributed in anyway at all, you have all played a part in this wonderful jigsaw, and whether it be a small part or a large part, you have all played a part and Duncan, Jenna and I thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. We of course thank Calum most of all, since it is Calum who has driven the whole project, and paid the biggest price of all. We are hoping that the build will be a 16 week build and should be fully completed by Christmas, allowing us to start inviting families to come at the beginning of next year. We are desperate for this to happen, as it is a sad fact but the waiting list is getting longer and there are so many wee people and their families that Calums Cabin can help. Thanks this week also, to everyone who purchased raffle…

There is still plenty of time to buy raffle tickets, either from Print Point or direct from ourselves at £1 a strip. This week we are having a stall at the Highland Games to sell tickets and merchandise, fingers crossed for all involved that it is a lovely day, and the games are a success. The Annual Flower Show is being held at the Pavilion on 30th and 31st August, again this year, there is a class for Calums Cabin. This year it is in the Older Children’s section, ages 9 to 12 years, are they have been asked to design a lapel badge to be worn to support Calums Cabin. Entries must be listed on an entry form and submitted to Bute Community Links, 12 Bishop Street, during the week prior to the show. Entries close at 5pm on the Thursday and the fee is 10p per exhibit. Hopefully a lot of young people will have a go, and some lucky person will receive the prize. Good Luck. Thank you all again this week, we live in a very generous world, and if we can…

Firstly, thank you to everyone who played football yesterday, and had a fun day helping to raise money at the same time. The trophy stayed in Bute this year, being won by the Bute Help Project, and anyone wishing to see the trophy will see it in their window in Victoria Street, well done boys. The tickets for Karen Dunbar are going fast, about a third of them are away already, thanks to everyone who has purchased already. Karen this week returns to the Guilded Balloon in Edinburgh for the fringe where she is until 24th August, doing her one woman comedy show, which she performed earlier this year in Australia and will bring to us on 27th September. I somehow don’t think there will be a dry eye in the house, that night! I am back to my letter writing, we are applying again to a variety of trusts and foundations for assistance, fingers crossed. Thank you to all the local tradesmen who have come forward to offer their time, what a difference that will make, it is greatly appreciated, since the more money we can save, the more that can be spent on the families. Thanks again to everyone.

Karen Dunbar
The tickets for Karen Dunbar will go on sale in Print Point and from committee members from Tuesday 29th July, these will be on a first come first served basis and in the unlikely event that there are some left, tickets will be sold at the door on the night. The evening will be held at the new School Campus, on Saturday 27th September, doors open 7.15pm for the show commencing at 8p.m. Tickets are priced at £12.50. See you there, it will be really funny and enjoyable evening. Brian our architect, has managed to alter some features about the cabin and hopefully we are just about ready to sign on the dotted line and building will be able to get started. We seem to have had a very long wait, but everthing takes time, I know, so hopefully soon. Katie, our wee friend, who I have talked about before, has had wonderful news, a donor has been found (infact 3 new matches have come onto the list) and her transplant operation takes place on Thursday 21st August. Katie will have to undergo intense chemo before the transplant and after, as well as radiotherapy. Please keep Katie and her family, Mum Siobhan, Dad Neil and wee sister Libby in your thoughts and prayers. As well…

Our architect Brian has been working on ways to reduce the costs of the cabin, and also with the help of everyone who has so far offered their services, hopefully we will be able to start building quite soon. We have all waited a long time for this, so fingers crossed we are nearly there. Thanks to everyone who has come forward, and keep coming if you are interested in helping at all. It will make you feel good, I can assure you, to help such needy families. Sunday 3rd August just to remind you all again, is the football 5 aside tournament at the school playing fields, application forms are available from the help project in Victoria Street, so on you go, get a team together and have some fun and fresh air, all in a good cause. Duncan is even thinking about dusting of his football boots, so if he can do it, anyone can!!! Thanks to everyone again.
