National Lottery!!
Months and months ago we applied to the National Lottery for funding, we now have confirmation that within the next few weeks we will been granted an award for £10,000. This is great and helps swell the fund. I have been writing many letters again this week, to a variety of organisations and other charities to see if again they can help us in any way, in regard to funding or with materials etc to build “Calum’s Cabin”. All the tickets are sold for the Whist Drive, so thanks to all who purchased, looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday night, it will be a good night I am sure, although anyone reading this who is really good at playing cards, please go easy on me!!! Our meeting last week with the BBC, John Bute and our architect went really well, thank you to all who got involved, it was freezing but very good!!!! Jenna has been approached by the Rotary Club to attend their annual conference in Blackpool, as she has been nominated for Young Rotarian of the Year. Well done Jen. This week, we also got very sad news, that one of our keen wee supporters, has become not well again. Katie is only 5 years old and was diagnosed at the…

Planning Permission
This week sees our planning application being submitted to Argyll and Bute District Council for planning consent, fingers crossed that this goes smoothly, and that it is another step forward for Calums Cabin. Thanks to everyone who has helped to get us this far so quickly. This week we also have the BBC coming on Wednesday to make another part for the documentary for Calums Cabin which will be shown on the week of Children in Need in November. Thanks in advance to everyone who is helping on Wednesday, hopefully the weather will stay dry!!! Talking about television, a wee birdie told me that if we keep watching Ready Steady Cook, in the next few weeks Calums Cabin gets a mention, thanks to the “wee birdie”, I am told I can’t tell you anymore just now, because that would take away the surprise!!! There are only a few tickets left for the whist drive, so if antyone still wants one, please contact us quickly, remember Wednesday 19th March, 7.30pm in the 292. Again, just a big thank you to each and everyone, from a Caravan to a Cabin in one year is just amazing. Thank you.

Hats and Whists!!!
Another busy week for Calums Cabin. Thanks this week to everyone who has come forward in regard to helping with the cabin once it is built. We are having a whist drive on Wednesday 19th March at 7.30pm in the 292, £3 per ticket, tickets are available from Duncan and myself and direct from Robert McKirdy. Please come along and enjoy a wee night out. New Calums Cabin merchandise is available at the Bike Shop, there are great wooly hats priced at £5 each, just what’s needed for this wintery weather and supporting us at the same time, not to mention jackets and a variety of other items. Thanks again to everyone who is supporting Calums Cabin, it is great. I have kept this weeks update short, since you all had to sit with a cup of tea last week, cause it was so long!!!!!

Royal Bank of Scotland Chairman’s Awards(RBS International Award for Fundraising)
Hello, all our Calum’s Cabin followers and supporters. I know that I say this many times, but this week, I really don’t know where to start!! As you read last week, STV, came to visit us, and the film which was made was lovely, it was broadcast on Friday at various times throughout the day, and anyone who didn’t manage to see it, but would still like to catch it, can watch it at www.stv.tv/content/news/main/display, or you can also view it by going into google and typing in Calum Speirs and linking into the site that way. This has really allowed “Calum’s Cabin” to be a household name, and has hopefully reached many homes that in the future we can help. As well that is, hopefully businesses who could help us in any way, i.e. with building materials, interior designers, carpet suppliers, landscape designers, anyone would be wonderful. If you don’t ask, then you don’t get!!! Wednesday, saw us having a telephone meeting with the Daily Record, again, hopefully this should be published this coming week, and should have the same effects as STV did, in passing on the word, and promoting the name of “Calum’s Cabin”. Thursday………well…….I am still in shock. I arrived in Edinburgh just after lunchtime. Thursday was the 21st, a year…

Chairmans awards and Scotland today!!!
Today saw Scotland today coming to the Island, they were really lovely people, and we had a lovely day thanks to the weather. We discussed “Calum’s Cabin” and had some footage in the Royal Bank, followed by shots at the Straad, and some interviews there. This is all courtesy of the Royal Bank’s Chairmans awards, which are happening on Thursday. So, if you can please watch Scotland Today on Thursday or Friday evening, it is great because not only is “Calum’s Cabin” getting publicity, but the Island is getting publicity also. Duncan, Jenna and I find all the attention quite hard, but if it gets help for “Calum’s Cabin” and the word is spread, then that’s the name of the game. We have reached a level that a year ago we could never have envisaged, it is truely amazing. Thank you all for the help to make last weeks family have a great holiday, the feedback has all been positive, so here’s to the next family. On the thank you front, we would like to say thanks to everyone for their kind wishes and gestures at the weekend, it was very much appreciated. The events are beginning to start again, and hopefully by next week, I should have some details for your “coming events”!!!, dairies…

2008-02-06
On Sunday we were invited to The Kathy Innes Benevolent Dinner, we had a lovely time, and met some wonderful people, who give of their time and energies to great causes, and have many sad and inspirational stories to tell. Thank you for inviting us and also for the wonderful donation. This week our first family have arrived for a well deserved holiday. So far they seem to be having a great time. Thanks to all who have helped in any way. This just emphasises what needs to be done and what can be achieved. As some of you perhaps already know, Dr Boyd is sailing on the final leg of Round the World Yacht Race, he has asked anyone who would like to sponsor him to go onto www.clipperroundtheworld.com and then follow the link. We will be thinking of him on his exciting venture. It’s nearly a whole year since we lost our precious star, we miss Calum as much today if not more than we did then. Each and every day is a struggle, but we know that Calum always said and did, “if you can help anyone else, then that is what you do”, so that is what we are trying to do. We know “Calum’s Cabin” is being driven by Calum…
